Welcome to Excise House Lagavulin
The southern most island of the Inner Scottish Hebrides, Islay is most famous for its world renowned whisky but also has a unique diversity of stunning beaches, varied wildlife and rugged coastline.
This former Excise House dates from the early 1900's and would have been the residence of the local Excise Man for Lagavulin Distillery.
Renovated and restored to a high standard in a modern and contempoary style yet retaining many of the original features the Excise House provides you with a unique base to explore our island.
We are perfectly placed for you to visit and enjoy the 3 most southerly or Kildalton distilleries of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg which are all within walking distance.
The South Islay Distillery Path passes the house, this was completed in 2015 and now provides a safe and accessible route for walkers and cyclists. From your starting point in Port Ellen the path winds its way along the shore affording a stunning outlook towards the Mull of Kintyre and the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland. You then venture inland through the forest of Laphroaig Distillery and on towards Lagavulin. The path then slowly winds its way up towards Ardbeg providing more stunning views of sea and countryside.
